Title: The Slow Hello
You hear the ocean
the familiar roaring outside your window
calls to you.
As you walk
the sand moves under your feet
as if to say,
"Welcome back."
A stray wave comes
and crashed over your ankles
saying,
"Where have you been?"
the wave slowly returns to the ocean
calling,
"Come into the sea
and play with us."
The sand displays shells
the wave uncovered,
then quickly covers them again
saying,
"Look at the treasures
the sea offers. Come in,
and they are yours."
Another wave bathes your toes
with foamy surf
murmuring,
"Come into the Ocean with us."
It calls over it's shoulder
as it falls back into the sea
"I dare you."
Small droplets of ocean
laugh on your fingers,
"Come with us.
Let's have fun!"
Regretfully, you turn away
and walk toward civilization,
the sand on your feet...
the brine on your hands...
and the salt,
tart in your mouth.
You turn once more,
the waves roll and shout,
"Goodbye for now. Come back again.
We'll be waiting."
